Having grown up in Derbyshire it’s fair to say I may be a little biased, but there is something very special about the county and countryside within it, and imbedded in all the green are perfect wedding venues which I have come to love a much as Derbyshire itself.

With businesses having to put things on pause over the past year, I thought it was time to give some wedding venues a little love. As I know they are missing opening their doors to lovely couples and their families, just as much as I am missing photographing them. So here are a few of my favourite wedding venues for you to check out.

WEDDING VENUES IN DERBYSHIRE

1. BLACKBROOK HOUSE, BELPER

Blackbook house is a gorgeous venue tucked into a woodland in the Derbyshire countryside. It produces some of the most unique weddings in the area as it works with you, the bridal couple, to create your wedding day exactly how you like it.

There is the option of being married in the house or garden, weather permitting. Either way, this lovely venue is ready to accommodate your every wedding whim.

Day guests: 2-120

Evening guests: 200

2. THE WEST MILL, DERBY

Towering over the dramatic River Derwent waterfall, The West Mill is one of the grandest venues in Derbyshire.

The brick walls and floor teamed with the natural light that streams in through the Georgian paned windows which surround the entire building offers a unique space to host your wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast and party. The bridal suite is also a great place to get snaps of your bridal party. I’ve teared up many a time while shooting a lovely moment here between a Bride and her father. The West Mill really has it all.

Day guests: 40-160

Wedding Breakfast seating:

Trestle table layout - 40-120

3. HAARLEM MILL, WIRKSWORTH

If you have spent any time looking for wedding venues, I guarantee this little gem will pop up. Situated in Wirksworth, where the town meets the countryside its industrial brick makes a great wedding group backdrop. Haarlem Mill can hold 160 guests for evening and 128 for ceremonies and wedding breakfasts, they also have in-house caterers, Zest4Events, so all of your needs are catered for.

The Mill has 3 floors and a lift for easy access, with the stunning ceremony room on the top floor. The light that shines through the large windows is breathtaking.

The bridal suite is one of my favourite things about this venue. It’s so chic, beautifully furnished and equipped with everything a Bride and her bridal party might need to begin preparations for their wedding day.

There are also some badass wedding suppliers which occupy the same building as Haarlem Mill; Tineke Floral and Haarlem Bridal, check them out in the links below.

4.SHOTTLE HALL, BELPER

Shottle Hall give you all the choices! Slap bang in the middle of the countryside, you’ll feel like you own the manor.

There is a choice of two places to marry with this lovely venue; the marquee, with its choice of outdoor or indoor ceremony space. The marquee combines a traditional stone built coachhouse with a luxury marquee. Or you could choose to marry in the classic Victorian country house, with its gorgeous views over the valley and stunning Orangery restaurant for you and your guests to dine and dance in.

Shottle Hall has its own catering and accommodation to ensure everything is exactly how you like it on your big day. The Hall’s outside space is also great for a big group shot or bouquet toss. One of my weddings at Shottle Hall had a champagne box toss, not a bad idea if you ask me, and you’d better believe people were jumping for it!

Shottle is lovely and I look forward to shooting and attending (shout out to my friends Bryony and Jonny!) many more weddings there.

Marquee Day guests: 60-150

Marquee Evening guests: Max 250

Hall Day guests: 16-90

Hall Evening guests: Max 150
